me

Hello, I am Sean Negus

Graduate Student at Iowa State University

I am currently a graduate student pursuing a master's degree in Agricultural Economics at Iowa State University. With a interest in the intersection of agriculture and economics, I am wish to contribute meaningfully to the evolving landscape of agribusiness.

Growing up on a farm I have always had a passion for agriculture which led me majoring in Agricultural Business as an undergrad. During undergrad, I also undertook a data science minor where I developed an appreciation for more analytical methods and gained experience in R and Python. Within my master's program I plan on gaining a deeper understanding of economic theory and combine it with self-learning of various programming languages and tools.

In my free time I am a big Cyclone fan and enjoy watching all the football and basketball games. I also enjoy spending my free time outdoors, cooking, reading books, and doing puzzles.

Work Experience

Growing up on a farm I was taught a wide range of practical and life skills. It teaches responsibility, as things on a farm require constant attention from the livestock to the equipment. Problem-solving skills too as things are constantly changing, such as having to adapt to weather, seasons, and other unforeseen challenges. Additionally, farming promotes teamwork and communication, often requiring cooperation with family and others to get work done efficiently.

Off the farm, I've worked in agronomy at multiple cooperatives and an on-campus job while at college. Working at a cooperative combines both technical and customer skills. It requires an understanding of agricultural production to help communicate to producers issues related to crop management, soil health, and pest control.
